Know-How › Info on data creation
Everything about operating systems, programmes, layout data, pictures and colour, print data and correct softproof settings.
Operating systems:
We have the following operating systems/programmes available for processing your data:
- Apple Macintosh OS X
- Windows XP
- PDF workflow Printready
Programmes
We can process data from the following programmes in the original software:
- QuarkXPress 7/8 (Mac/PC)
- Indesign CS4/CS5 (Mac/PC)
- Pagemaker 6/7 (Mac/PC)
- Freehand MX (Mac/PC)
- Illustrator CS4/CS5 (Mac/PC)
- Photoshop CS4/CS5 (Mac/PC)
- Corel Draw X4
Layout data
Please note the following points when you are creating your layout data:
- Create lines with min. 0.25 pt
- Create single or double pages in correct page sequence
- Specify exact final format with trim marks
- 3 mm trimming edge
- Create colours as CMYK or special colours. Please consult us first if using extended colour spaces (Hexachrome, NovaSpace, Aniva …). See also Pictures and Colour.
- Only use original font styles (do not set, for example, to bold or italic in the programme's font menu)
- Document or picture names should not contain any punctuation or special characters
Pictures and Colour
- Picture data in CMYK mode (RGB only by arrangement) as TIFF, EPS (not JPEG compressed) or JPEG
- Picture data with minimum 300 dpi resolution in original size
- The standard profiles for use in sheet-fed offset are available for download at www.eci.org.
In standard cases we recommend the profile "ISO_coated_v2_eci.icc", which is contained in the package "ECI_Offset_2007". - We will be happy to supply profiles for extended colour spaces on request.
- E&B is certified according to DIN-ISO 12647-2 ProzessStandard Offsetdruck (PSO).
Print data
You have the following options for supplying us with your print data:
- Open layout files (for possible programmes see above). All embedded elements (fonts, graphics) must be included. Existing license agreements should be respected when sending fonts and graphics!
- PS files (high-resolution, all fonts embedded, with trimming edges and trim marks)
- PDF-X3, with trimming and trim marks
- PDF, created with E&B job option distiller (print-optimised, all fonts embedded) with trimming and trim marks.
PDF/X3 is "standard" and consists of: embedding of fonts, definition of overfilling, definition of page geometry, production ready image resolution, handling of scae- and special colours and ICC profiles. Advantage: Reduction of errors in teamwork betrween creative and producing partners.
Correct softproof settings
In order to achieve finally correct validation of PDF files you need to activate "overprint preview" in Acrobat Reader 9 or Acrobat 9 for viewing!
In Acrobat Reader 9 you can find "overprint preview" at settings, page view. In Acrobat 9 it can be found at "enhanced".
